//Extra Life 24H of The Ring

About The Event

RaceSpot TV Are proud to announce a 24 Hour Race taking place on the 2nd and 3rd November 2019 at the iRacing virtual Nurburgring, all in support of Extra Life Day 2019.

Our event will showcase three classes of cars:

  • GTE – BMW M8, Ferrari 488, Ford GT GTE.
  • Porsche 911 Cup Car
  • Audi TCR

We will be using the WEC layout of the Nürburgring for this event, which has played host to several racing events over the years. It’s a track with three very different sectors, from the slow speed Mercedes Benz Arena, to the Schumacher S, then the fast run to the chicane towards the end of the lap. At points, it’s a narrow track, meaning that drivers need to be careful negotiating traffic, and remembering to keep their emotions in check. We’ve chosen the GP layout over the Nordschleife, as we feel that this will create a different style of race, and add excitement to our 24 hour event.

November will be 5 years since RaceSpot hosted the first ever broadcasted iRacing 24 Hour event, that time taking place at Spa. Despite an early issue, we were proud that the event largely went off without a hitch, and we saw Coanda SimSport’s Martin Kronke in particular show one of the most masterful drives we’ve seen in an iRacing Endurance Race. That day, XXX XXX and XXX were our class winners.

5 years on, we’ve chosen to do a 24 hour race to raise money and awareness for Extra Life, a charity which seeks to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals in North America. The tagline of Extra Life is ‘Play Games, Heal Kids’, and the highlight of their fundraising year is Extra Life Game Day, which this year takes place on the 2nd November. Extra Life day is one of the biggest days of the year for streamers and gamers, and we feel that it is a fitting way to showcase one of Sim Racing’s most exciting products: A 24 Hour  endurance race.

About The Cars

[edge_accordion style=”toggle” layout=”simple”][edge_accordion_tab title_tag=”h6″ title=”GTE – BMW M8″]

The BMW M8 gained a degree of notoriety at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 when it launched, often being the butt of jokes about how big it is. Both real world and sim racing drivers have however commented about how fun a car it is to drive, and it’s likely to feature heavily in this event, having been the car of choice in the 2019 VRS GT iRacing World Championship.

Whilst it may not have had the results it wanted in the 2018 – 9 World Endurance Championship, it has already become an icon in GTE, showing potential across the season. It runs a Front – Mid Engined V8 Turbocharged engine, capable of 592BHP.

Whilst the name Ferrari immediately invokes images of the Formula 1 team, they have been no slouch to Sports Car racing over the years, and the Ferrari 488 has been developed to compete in both GT3 and GTE categories, being successful in both.

It was the Ferrari 48 GTE which took class honours in the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing 2nd in the 2018-9 World Endurance Championship. The car runs a mid-engined 4 Litre V8, capable of 600BHP.

[/edge_accordion_tab][edge_accordion_tab title_tag=”h6″ title=”GTE – Ford GT”]

The Ford GT has been a presence in GT racing around the world for decades, including being one part of one of the most intense periods of competition in Le Mans history, when they fought Ferrari for honours. Though the detailing of the car has changed since the 60s, the ford GT is still one of the world’s most recognisable GT cars.

Though the current Ford GT may have lost factory backing, it has shown immense competition since returning in 2016 to the program. The latest model of the car runs a mid-engined, 3.5 Litre V6 Ecoboost Engine.

[/edge_accordion_tab][edge_accordion_tab title_tag=”h6″ title=”Porche 911 GT3 Cup Car”]

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car is the world’s most produced and used GT race car, and over the years has launched the careers of many a GT and Sports car racing driver.

The car runs a 4 litre, flat 6, capable of 485BHP, using a 6 speed gearbox. It is one of the world’s most recognisable race cars due to it’s rear engine and sculpted designs, but is one which is tough for drivers to master.

The showpiece for this car is the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which is the world’s fastest international one make series. It is also the car used in the Porsche eSports Supercup,

[/edge_accordion_tab][edge_accordion_tab title_tag=”h6″ title=”Audi RS 3 LMS”]

The Audi RS 3 LMS is one of iRacing’s newest cars, but is one with a rich pedigree. It was voted TCR Model of the Year 2018, and is one of the most recognisable cars in the burgeoning WTCR Cup.

This front wheeled, 2 Litre engine can produce 350BHP, making it not only a great car for Touring Car style racing, but also well suited to longer, endurance events. Expect to see close racing throughout this car class, perhaps even onto the last lap!
